Consultant, Disaster Law and NS Legal and Statutory Base

About the role

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is seeking a Consultant to support its Disaster Law unit at headquarters. The role focuses on providing expert legal advice and guidance on the development of a new international treaty aimed at protecting persons affected by disasters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal analysis and advice on ongoing State discussions related to the disaster protection treaty.
• Conduct in‑depth research on international humanitarian and disaster law frameworks.
• Develop recommendations, position papers, and policy briefs for senior IFRC leadership.
• Design and deliver training modules and communication materials for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and other partners to ensure alignment with IFRC strategic objectives.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in law (LL.M. or equivalent) with specialization in international humanitarian or disaster law.
• Proven experience in treaty development, legal research, and policy drafting.
• Strong analytical, writing, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work in a multicultural, multi‑stakeholder environment.
• Fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage.
