Consultant Paediatric Genetics

About the role

The Consultant Paediatric Genetics will lead and supervise high‑quality, evidence‑based genetic care for children at Tawam Hospital. This senior medical role involves diagnosing, managing and treating paediatric patients with genetic conditions while ensuring excellence in clinical practice.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of evidence‑based paediatric genetics care, including diagnosis, management and treatment.
• Conduct patient examinations, obtain histories, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe therapies and develop comprehensive treatment plans.
• Oversee ward rounds and manage both inpatient and outpatient cases.
• Supervise junior medical staff, providing instruction, guidance and mentorship.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in multi‑disciplinary meetings.
• Provide on‑call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Document clinical information accurately and comply with hospital, departmental and DOH policies.
• Participate in clinical audits, performance management and risk‑management activities.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families, ensuring informed consent for procedures.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent degree with a postgraduate qualification (MD, MS, DNB) and completion of a recognised specialty training programme.
• 3–7 years of post‑specialty clinical experience in a multidisciplinary setting.
• Eligibility for a valid DOH licence to practise in Abu Dhabi, including primary source verification and DOH exam where required.
• Good standing certificate from the current or previous licensing authority.
