Consultant Palliative Medicine

About the role

We are looking for a highly experienced Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join a leading hospital in the United Arab Emirates. The role involves delivering comprehensive, patient‑centred palliative care for individuals with serious, complex, and life‑limiting illnesses.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and manage patients with advanced, progressive, and life‑limiting conditions.
• Provide advanced symptom control, including complex pain, breathlessness, nausea, fatigue, delirium, and psychological distress.
• Develop individualized care plans aligned with patient goals and preferences.
• Lead discussions on advance care planning, goals of care, and end‑of‑life decisions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across oncology, internal medicine, surgery, intensive care, nursing, and allied health.
• Offer specialist consultations in inpatient, outpatient, and other appropriate settings.
• Participate in clinical governance, audits, quality‑improvement projects, and the development of care pathways.

Required profile

• Board certification in Palliative Medicine or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• Recognised Tier 1 qualification (e.g., ABMS, Canadian Royal College, UK CCT/CCST, European Board).
• Minimum 3–5 years post‑specialisation experience in palliative care.
• Eligibility for consultant‑level licensing with DHA, DOH, or MOHAP.

Required skills

• Extensive experience managing complex, life‑limiting illnesses.
• Advanced expertise in symptom and pain management.
• Strong knowledge of end‑of‑life care and advance care planning.
• Excellent communication and counselling abilities for patients and families.
• Leadership and decision‑making skills within multidisciplinary teams.
