Consultant – Pediatric Surgery (Pediatric Urology)

About the role

Black Pearl is recruiting on behalf of a well-established healthcare provider in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for a Consultant in Pediatric Surgery with a strong emphasis on pediatric urology. The role covers assessment and surgery through long-term follow-up, combining clinical judgment with compassionate communication and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and manage general pediatric surgical conditions alongside congenital and acquired pediatric urological disorders.
• Perform pediatric and pediatric-urology procedures within approved privileges.
• Lead perioperative planning, emergency consultation, inpatient review and consultant on-call coverage.
• Collaborate with nephrology, neonatology, radiology, intensive care, anesthesia and specialist nursing teams.
• Maintain procedure and outcome data and contribute to multidisciplinary clinics, audit, education and service development.
• Supervise junior medical staff, support multidisciplinary decision-making and communicate effectively with patients and families.
• Take part in clinical governance, incident review, quality improvement, credentialing, continuing professional development and departmental education.

Required profile

• Medical degree and a recognized Pediatric Surgery specialty/subspecialty certification; a formal pediatric urology fellowship is highly desirable.
• Recognition of the exact specialty and subspecialty award under the UAE Professional Qualification Requirements.
• Internship completed and active, unrestricted registration in the current or most recent country of practice.
• DOH Consultant-level post-qualification experience with substantial recent, independently performed pediatric urology work.
• Eligibility to obtain a Department of Health – Abu Dhabi Consultant licence for the applicable base specialty/title; for Tier 1 vacancies the exact Tier 1 award is mandatory.
• Fluent Arabic communication.
• A procedure-level pediatric urology operative log; general pediatric surgery experience alone is not sufficient.

Required skills

• Current BLS, ACLS and PALS.
• Excellent diagnostic, procedural and clinical decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and counseling skills with patients, families and multicultural teams.
• Ability to supervise, teach and support colleagues, and to work in an acute setting and on call.
