Consultant Visceral Surgeon

About the role

The Consultant Visceral Surgeon provides specialized surgical care for patients with diseases and disorders of the abdominal organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, spleen and other intra-abdominal organs. The role covers diagnosis, management and performance of complex elective and emergency procedures, maintaining high standards of patient safety and clinical excellence under Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage patients with complex abdominal and gastrointestinal conditions
• Perform advanced visceral and abdominal surgeries, including laparoscopic and minimally invasive procedures
• Manage acute abdominal emergencies such as intestinal obstruction, perforation, appendicitis, peritonitis and abdominal trauma
• Provide preoperative assessment, surgical planning and postoperative management, monitoring complications and follow-up
• Evaluate patients through clinical examination, imaging, laboratory tests and endoscopy
• Collaborate with gastroenterologists, oncologists, radiologists and anaesthesiologists and take part in multidisciplinary case meetings
• Maintain accurate medical records, comply with infection control and patient safety standards, and take part in clinical audits and quality improvement
• Supervise and guide junior doctors and surgical team members

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution
• Recognized postgraduate specialization in General Surgery, Visceral Surgery or an equivalent specialty
• Valid Consultant-level professional qualification recognized by the DHA
• Extensive clinical experience in general and visceral surgery, including complex abdominal and gastrointestinal procedures; laparoscopic experience preferred
• Previous experience in a reputed hospital or tertiary care centre is desirable
• BLS and ACLS certification, as applicable
