Crew Chief - Tubular Services

About the role

Nabors, a provider of advanced technology for the energy industry, is hiring a Crew Chief, a senior field technician who independently runs complex tubular services operations such as casing running, conventional torque turn and CDS equipment activities. The role validates job requirements, leads safe rig-up and rig-down, operates and troubleshoots mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and data-acquisition equipment, and acts as a technical resource for field crews and customers.

Key responsibilities

• Execute casing, completion string, drill pipe, torque turn and CDS field activities within approved procedures and operating limits, validating scope, casing sizes and weights, tool configuration and torque requirements before work begins.
• Lead rig-up, function testing, field operation and rig-down, coordinating with the Driller, Pusher, Stabber, Floorhand and service personnel.
• Rig up, connect, function-test and operate CDS and cement plug launching equipment, and prepare, inspect, load, secure and document equipment for transport.
• Inspect tongs, hydraulic power units, CDS tools, transmitters, receivers, torque subs and cables, and diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, communication and data issues.
• Serve as a senior technical contact, complete and verify job packets, torque records, equipment checks, service tickets and defect records, and train less-experienced technicians.
• Non-essential duties include driving a company vehicle, supporting shop and yard activities, assisting with field surveys and job planning, and taking part in safety meetings and training.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Four to seven years of related experience in casing installation, tubular services, rig-floor, drilling or comparable oilfield operations.
• Previous oilfield experience and proven ability to run complex tubular services independently.
• Working knowledge of casing sizes, weights, connections, operating specifications, torque requirements and job validation.
