Database Specialist (Biology, Ecology, Breeding)

About the role

A Database Specialist with a background in biology, ecology, agronomy, breeding or a related field is sought, combining data management and relational database skills. Reporting to the Senior Database Manager, the specialist supports line-of-business applications and their users across breeding, veterinary, ecology, laboratory and other operational areas. The role covers business needs analysis, data management, application support, SQL, BI and emerging AI technologies, with opportunities to join projects across international locations.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze business needs and prepare functional specifications, proposing solutions aligned with company strategy.
• Support optimization of Intranet applications, including technical dictionaries, input forms, back-office configuration and SQL Server activities.
• Work with service providers and partners on application development and enhancement.
• Perform ETL and data consolidation across production centers; support BI and dashboards, especially with Tableau.
• Support AI-based solutions, including automated recognition and generative AI.
• Curate, process and extract data using SQL scripting, and write user documentation and activity reports.
• Train internal users, follow up with external providers and take part in international missions.

Required profile

• Master's degree, or Bachelor's degree with relevant experience, in Agronomy, Ecology, Biology, Breeding or an equivalent field.
• Previous experience in data management and data processing, beyond database administration; first professional experience required.
• Interest in operational processes in breeding, ecology, laboratory and veterinary activities; willingness to travel internationally.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of T-SQL and SQL Server or another relational database.
• Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office and internet applications.
• Preferred: initial experience with AI, basic Python/R or systems/networks (Active Directory, IP, DNS), BI/Tableau or GIS/ESRI, and fluency in French, Arabic, Russian, Kazakh or Uzbek.
