Desktop Software Engineer II - GCS Software

About the role

AL TARIQ is hiring a Desktop Software Engineer II in Abu Dhabi to develop and maintain Ground Control Station (GCS) software using the Qt Framework and QML, with a focus on intuitive, high-performance GUIs. The role covers the full software development lifecycle and works closely with hardware and embedded systems teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain GCS software with Qt and QML, focusing on intuitive, high-performance GUIs.
• Take part in planning, design, coding, testing, integration and deployment.
• Collaborate with hardware and embedded teams so software integrates seamlessly with connected, networked components.
• Perform integration testing to validate functionality, reliability and performance.
• Document architecture, design decisions and requirements, and write user guides and technical documentation.
• Write and maintain unit tests and work with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements.
• Follow coding standards and best practices, especially in safety-critical environments.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
• Minimum 10 years of software development experience, or 7+ years with a Master's degree.
• At least 5 years of hands-on C++ development.
• Proven experience with large and complex codebases, including refactoring and integration.

Required skills

• C++, object-oriented programming and design patterns.
• Qt Framework, Qt QML and GUI development.
• Integration and unit testing, Linux development environment, and Python for automation.
• Networking protocols (TCP, UDP, IP) and communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet).
• Version control (Git), continuous integration (Jenkins), and knowledge of RTOS and safety-critical standards (DO-178C, ISO 26262, RTCA).
• Agile or Scrum is an added advantage.
