Director - Energy Electrical Projects

About the role

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) is looking for a Director for Energy Electrical Projects in Dubai. The role sets the long-term plan and strategy for the DUBAL, Emal and Shaheen power plants and covers electrical maintenance, protection, budget and project coordination across the three plants.

Key responsibilities

• Set the long-term plan and strategy for the three power plants and review the annual budget, quality procedures and service contract enquiries.
• Review routine, preventive overhaul and emergency maintenance of all electrical equipment, and review contingency and emergency procedures.
• Optimise electrical protection concepts, design and settings, and act as the division's reference for coordination with national grid utilities and IPP plants.
• Take part in GE and Alstom conferences and exhibitions to shape the division's strategy.
• Review strategic plans, annual budgets and long-term cost estimates for electrical maintenance, and perform cost-benefit analyses.
• Review technical reports and plant data, lead root cause analysis of breakdowns, and advise on electrical protection and older equipment.
• Review electrical discipline documents for new projects, coordinate with contractors, consultants and manufacturers, and help prepare technical specifications.
• Take part in management reviews and monthly electrical team meetings, and follow the EHS management system.

Required profile

• Expatriates: Master's degree in Engineering and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; minimum 15 years' experience in developing, commissioning or O&M of power plants, with at least 5 years leading the function.
• UAE Nationals: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; minimum 12 years' experience in O&M of power plants, with at least 5 years leading the function.

Required skills

• Knowledge of power generation and desalination electrical equipment and protection, and of ISO-based quality, safety and environmental management systems.
• Strategic planning, budgeting and budget control for a large process plant or power utility.
• Technical reporting and maintenance oversight.
