Electrical Design Engineer - Data Centre MEP

About the role

Kent Data Centres is looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join its MEP design team in Abu Dhabi. The role covers designing electrical systems for data centres, from power distribution to generator and UPS systems, and supporting tenders and client enquiries.

Key responsibilities

• Independently prepare designs for data centre electrical systems including MV and LV distribution, generators and UPS, switchgear, MDB, SMDB, DB and small power systems
• Prepare electrical design calculations, sizing, discrimination studies and analysis according to client and project requirements
• Produce electrical single-line schematics for sales documentation and build drawings, and write specifications for critical electrical installations
• Issue electrical specifications to contractors and develop drawings, technical submissions and operational descriptions to construction standard
• Check material submittals against technical design and support incoming enquiries and queries
• Study tender documents and prepare technical responses to bids, proposals and quotations
• Take part in reviewing and submitting technical and commercial responses, and attend client, supplier and third-party meetings on and off site
• Follow up on-site consultancy with reports, findings and recommendations on risks and opportunities for improvement
• Work with the senior design team and other departments to solve complex client requirements

Required profile

• Degree in BEng/BSc/BE/B.Tech or master's in electrical engineering from an accredited university, with 4 years of relevant experience; experience in building services and data centres preferred
• 2 years of experience in MEP building design consultancy for data centres
• Good communication skills in writing, on the telephone and face to face
• Detail-oriented, analytical, flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines

Required skills

• Electrical design software such as AutoCAD, DIA Lux, RE Lux, MATLAB or PSpice
• Power distribution systems, control systems and renewable energy technologies
• MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
• Working knowledge of Uptime Tiers, TIA-942-C and IEEE standards
