Emergency Medical Technician – Basic

About the role

The Emergency Medical Technician – Basic provides immediate pre‑hospital care to patients experiencing accidents, sudden illness, or medical emergencies. Working closely with hospital staff, emergency services, and dispatch, the EMT ensures rapid response, stabilisation, and safe transport to the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to emergency calls, drive to the scene, and deliver basic life support (BLS) until hospital transfer.
• Assess patients, perform 3‑lead ECG, monitor vital signs, and administer appropriate interventions such as AED, CPR, spinal motion restriction, and bleeding control.
• Administer medications and treatments including activated charcoal, oral glucose, oxygen, aspirin, and epinephrine auto‑injector when indicated.
• Maintain and restock ambulance equipment, perform cleaning and disinfection, and ensure vehicle mechanical readiness.
• Document patient care accurately and transmit information to the receiving facility.
• Collaborate with communications officers, field supervisors, police, fire department, and hospital personnel to coordinate emergency response.
• Perform scene size‑up, primary and secondary examinations, and use non‑invasive diagnostic devices.
• Provide emotional support to patients, families, and by‑standers while adhering to safety and infection‑control protocols.

Required profile

• Valid DOH licence as Emergency Medical Technician (Basic) and current UAE driving licence.
• Graduate of an internationally recognised EMT‑Basic course with BLS and PHTLS certifications.
• Minimum two years of EMT experience in a pre‑hospital setting.
• Fluent in spoken and written English; Arabic is desirable.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, emergency environment and follow medical‑legal regulations.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pre‑Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).
• Operation of AED, defibrillator, and bag‑valve‑mask devices.
• 3‑lead ECG acquisition and interpretation.
• Intravenous cannulation and administration of crystalloids.
• Blood glucose monitoring and administration of oral glucose.
• Epinephrine auto‑injector use for anaphylaxis.
