Field Test Engineer - Metal Detectors
Codan Limited · Dubai
Job description
About the role
Minelab, part of the Codan group, is looking for a Field Test Engineer to join its Systems Engineering team in Dubai. The engineer takes Minelab detectors into real-world environments to test product performance, measure site conditions and understand how people use the technology. The role involves about four to six domestic or international field trips per year, typically lasting one to two weeks, with local testing and record organisation between them.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and complete approved field tests safely, preparing detectors, measurement equipment and recording tools.
- Operate existing, prototype and unreleased detectors in real conditions, recording settings, accessories, software and test conditions.
- Measure and document soil mineralisation, ground-balance information, salinity, electromagnetic interference and other site conditions.
- Capture GPS records, photographs, video and approved soil samples for traceable results.
- Observe how people use Minelab and competitor detectors and gather feedback on performance, usability, setup and training needs.
- Organise and validate field data, maintain searchable records and prepare clear trip reports and presentations.
- Carry out local new-product and systems testing between field deployments and share findings with Systems Engineering.
- Develop expertise across Minelab detectors and help improve field procedures, checklists and recording methods.
- Work with regional teams, dealers and end users while protecting confidential product, result and customer information.
Required profile
- A relevant technical certificate, diploma or trade qualification, or substantial equivalent field-testing experience.
- An engineering, science or related degree is an advantage but not required.
- Experience collecting and organising technical or field data, following test procedures and keeping accurate records.
- Experience in product validation, field research, outdoor work, geology, environmental measurement or data analysis is valuable.
- Methodical, safety-conscious and comfortable working outdoors in remote or challenging environments.
- Current driver's licence and ability to meet travel requirements for approved trips.
Required skills
- Experience with metal detecting, GPS, technical field testing or interacting with customers facing technical issues is welcome but not essential.
- Relevant first-aid, four-wheel-driving and remote-area training may be completed after appointment.
What we offer
- A supportive, collaborative culture within a multidisciplinary team where innovation is encouraged.
- Flexibility to meet the demands of family life.
- A variety of staff events connecting colleagues across the Codan Group.
