First Watchkeeping Engineer – Dredger

About the role

The First Watchkeeping Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all engine‑room machinery on a cutter suction dredger. You will lead the engine‑room crew, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and support continuous dredging operations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain main and auxiliary engines, pumps, generators, compressors and hydraulic systems.
• Supervise engine‑room crew, enforce watch‑keeping standards and permit‑to‑work procedures.
• Maintain dredge pumps, cutter drive and related hydraulic equipment.
• Carry out planned preventive maintenance and ensure machinery reliability.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults and coordinate timely repairs.
• Maintain accurate logs, maintenance records, spare‑parts inventory and technical documentation.
• Monitor fuel, lube oil and cooling water consumption and optimise usage.
• Ensure compliance with ISM, class, flag‑state, HSE and company requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in marine or mechanical engineering.
• 5–10 years of onboard experience on a dredger.
• Basic & Advanced STCW certification.
• Medical fitness certificate as per ILO/MLC requirements.
