First Watchkeeping Engineer

About the role

The First Watchkeeping Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of the dredger’s engine room. You will lead a team of engineers, ensure smooth engine system performance, and apply best practices for safe and efficient operations. Strong marine engineering knowledge and problem‑solving ability are essential.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and efficient engine‑room watch in line with company procedures and statutory regulations.
• Monitor and operate main propulsion machinery, auxiliary systems and associated equipment.
• Ensure pressure, temperature and level parameters stay within safe limits.
• Respond promptly to alarms, machinery faults and emergency situations.
• Carry out routine inspections and preventive maintenance during watch‑keeping duties.
• Assist the Chief Engineer and 2nd Engineer with planned maintenance and repair activities.
• Manage fuel, lube oil and cooling systems during operations.
• Maintain accurate engine‑room logbooks and records as required by regulations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering.
• Basic and Advanced STCW training certificate.
• Certificate of Competency as Chief Engineer.
• Minimum 5 years rank experience on a dredger, preferably on SPCSD.
