Fuel Handling Manager

About the role

The Fuel Handling Manager is responsible for overseeing all activities related to new fuel receipt, refueling during outage periods, and reactor vessel disassembly and re‑assembly at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. The role ensures that outages are supported according to industry best practices while maintaining the highest standards of nuclear and personal safety.

Key responsibilities

• Manage leads and service providers, tracking progress and addressing performance issues.
• Coordinate with the Outage Control Center, plant staff, and vendors to resolve high‑level issues and adjust schedules.
• Ensure specialized resources are available for forced outages and down‑power situations.
• Identify and communicate key milestones well in advance to stage workers, infrastructure, and equipment.
• Liaise with outage management, maintenance, and contract teams to forecast resource needs.
• Monitor multiple outages to optimize utilization of service provider and ENEC staff resources.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key vendors to guarantee capability depth for BNPP outage requirements.
• Promote a robust safety culture and support effective management systems to meet licensing and regulatory obligations.
• Engage with the nuclear industry on best practices, operating experience, and lessons learned.
• Support IAEA inspections (PIV, DIV, PIT) and manage reactor pressure vessel disassembly, re‑assembly, and core loading activities.

Required profile

• Diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in a nuclear power plant environment.
• At least 1 year in a managerial role covering nuclear power operations, refueling outages, and startup testing.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate complex outage schedules.
