General Laborer – Entry Level (Backstand Technician)

About the role

Domtar is seeking an entry‑level General Laborer (Backstand Technician) to join its paper manufacturing facility in Washington Court House, Ohio. This full‑time, permanent position offers a structured career path with a focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Strip, prep, and load large paper rolls for cutting.
• Operate cutting tools and hand tools safely while performing physical lifting.
• Follow written or electronic operating procedures and maintain housekeeping standards.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Perform basic maintenance and daily safety inspections of the work area.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Mechanical aptitude or prior industrial experience preferred.
• Ability to work 12‑hour rotating shifts (7 am‑7 pm or 7 pm‑7 am).
• Basic math, reading, writing, and computer skills.
• Team‑oriented with a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Required skills

• Operation of powered industrial trucks (fork truck, clamp truck, dual fork truck, bale clamp truck, aerial work platform).
• Use of hand tools for material preparation.
• Material handling techniques, including hoists and dollies.

• Starting pay $24.09 per hour plus $1.50 shift premium.
