General Underwriter

About the role

A client of the recruiter is looking for an experienced General Underwriter to join a leading insurance brokerage team in Dubai. The role covers evaluating insurance risks across several lines of business, giving underwriting advice, negotiating terms with insurers and making sure policy placements are compliant and profitable. It calls for strong technical underwriting knowledge, risk assessment skills and good stakeholder management.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite insurance applications across Property, Casualty, Motor, Marine, Liability and Group Life lines
• Analyse risk exposures, financial information, claims history and supporting documents to set underwriting decisions and pricing
• Check policy coverage needs and make sure terms, conditions and wording fit
• Negotiate competitive quotations and favourable terms with insurers
• Evaluate and recommend coverage solutions based on clients' risk profiles
• Keep underwriting in line with internal guidelines, regulatory requirements and industry best practice
• Carry out AML checks and KYC due diligence to spot and reduce financial crime risk
• Support claims teams on complex or disputed claims
• Build relationships with insurers, clients, brokers and other stakeholders
• Prepare underwriting reports, risk evaluations and portfolio analyses, and suggest risk management improvements

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (attested certificate required)
• Minimum 3 years in general underwriting (attested experience certificate preferred)
• Preferred: experience in insurance brokerage or insurer underwriting departments
