Genetic Counsellor

About the role

A recruitment consultancy is looking for a compassionate and knowledgeable Genetic Counsellor to join its client's team in Abu Dhabi. The client is one of the UAE's largest government-affiliated healthcare networks, known for patient care and medical research. The counsellor provides expert genetic counselling to patients and families about inherited conditions and genetic risks.

Key responsibilities

• Provide genetic counselling to individuals, couples and families about inherited conditions and genetic risks
• Review patient medical histories and family pedigrees to assess potential genetic disorders
• Explain complex genetic concepts clearly so patients can make informed decisions
• Coordinate genetic testing, interpret results and discuss findings with patients and healthcare teams
• Support patients coping with genetic diagnoses
• Collaborate with physicians, laboratory staff and other professionals for integrated care
• Maintain detailed patient records in line with confidentiality and healthcare regulations
• Take part in public health education, awareness programmes and genetic research initiatives
• Stay up to date with developments in medical genetics and counselling techniques

Required profile

• Master's degree in Genetic Counselling, Medical Genetics or a related field
• Valid UAE healthcare professional licence or eligibility to obtain one
• At least 3 years of clinical experience in genetic counselling, including paediatric cases
• Strong knowledge of human genetics, genomics and counselling principles
• Excellent communication skills and an empathetic, patient-focused approach
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
