Genetic Counselor

About the role

The Genetic Counselor will deliver comprehensive genetic counseling services to both pediatric and adult patients at King’s College Hospital London, supporting informed healthcare and reproductive decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Assess personal, developmental, medical and family histories to evaluate inherited disease risk.
• Facilitate informed decision‑making regarding genetic and genomic investigations.
• Communicate complex genetic information clearly, compassionately and culturally sensitively.
• Provide psychosocial support before, during and after genetic testing.
• Develop individualized management and follow‑up plans with referring clinicians.
• Support the newborn genome screening program, including pre‑test education and post‑test counseling.
• Coordinate referrals to appropriate specialties and contribute to patient education materials.
• Participate in audit, quality improvement and research activities.

Required profile

• Experience providing genetic counseling to pediatric and adult populations.
• Ability to interpret detailed personal and family medical histories.
• Strong communication skills for explaining complex genetic concepts.
• Capability to deliver psychosocial support throughout the patient journey.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary clinical teams.
