Head of Performing Arts

About the role

Al Rabeeh Academy, a British curriculum school in Abu Dhabi, is looking for an experienced and passionate Head of Performing Arts to join from January 2027. The postholder leads the department while maintaining a teaching timetable across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, drives high standards of teaching and learning, develops the curriculum, supports staff and raises achievement. Teaching GCSE Performing Arts is essential; A Level experience is desirable.

Key responsibilities

• Teach engaging, well-structured lessons aligned with the British curriculum, covering Drama, Dance and/or Music up to at least GCSE, ideally A Level.
• Lead, inspire and manage the Performing Arts department, ensuring consistent standards of teaching, learning, assessment and student achievement.
• Develop a clear vision for the department and drive continuous improvement, innovation and excellence.
• Plan, direct and oversee productions, concerts, showcases, performances and community events.
• Monitor teaching quality through lesson observations, coaching, mentoring and professional development.
• Support and develop the Performing Arts team, and support the academic and pastoral development of students.
• Manage departmental budgets, resources, facilities and specialist equipment.
• Promote Performing Arts across the school and wider community through performances, competitions, partnerships and enrichment activities.
• Work with senior leaders on whole-school improvement and cross-curricular initiatives, and take part in school events and professional development.

Required profile

• Fluent English speaker.
• Bachelor's degree in Education or a relevant subject with PGCE / QTS (or equivalent teaching qualification).
• Experience teaching the English National Curriculum, preferably in an international setting.
• Strong classroom management skills and commitment to student wellbeing.
• Excellent leadership and management of a team.
