Head of Science

About the role

The Grammar School Dubai is seeking an experienced Head of Science to lead its science department. This senior teaching position involves shaping curriculum, overseeing assessment, and driving academic excellence across all science subjects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and prepare teaching materials, programmes and pastoral arrangements for the science department.
• Accountable for pupil attainment, progress and outcomes in science.
• Use student progress data to improve teaching, inform parents and support school inspections.
• Plan differentiated lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners, including SEN, gifted, EAL and disabled students.
• Promote high standards of literacy and correct spoken English within science teaching.
• Set homework, out‑of‑class activities and monitor progress through assessment data.
• Deliver the science curriculum appropriate to age and ability groups.
• Participate in examinations, assessments and use a range of observation and recording strategies.
• Provide regular, constructive feedback to pupils and encourage self‑reflection.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in teaching science at secondary level.
• Strong understanding of curriculum design, assessment practices and data‑driven improvement.
• Ability to support pupils with special educational needs, gifted and talented, and EAL backgrounds.
• Excellent classroom management and the capacity to inspire and motivate learners.
• Commitment to high standards of behaviour, safety and pastoral care.
