Heavy Equipment Operator

About the role

This position supports a government contract on a military installation, performing maintenance and repair of roads, curbs, drainage structures, and other improved surfaces. The operator will use a variety of heavy‑equipment techniques to ensure safe, durable infrastructure and provide erosion control as required.

Key responsibilities

• Determine the appropriate equipment for each maintenance or repair task and operate it to achieve proper grade, level, slope, and compaction.
• Investigate proposed work sites, plan and estimate job resources, and coordinate with civil‑engineering and base agencies.
• Inspect completed work to verify quality, compliance with regulations, and adherence to technical manuals.
• Maintain and repair graded and graveled roads, open ditches, drainage systems, foundations, slabs, and chain‑link fences.
• Operate specialized equipment such as cranes, forklifts, front‑end loaders, skid steers, excavators, and street sweepers.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum five (5) years recent heavy‑equipment experience in military or commercial settings.
• Experience performing or supervising construction equipment operation for asphalt, concrete, soil stabilization, and pavement work.
• At least one certification: OSHA‑certified crane operator (with 2 years on a 100‑ton crane), certified forklift, front‑end loader, CTL skid‑steer, excavator, street sweeper, or proven chain‑link fence construction experience.
• Basic computer skills and ability to read technical manuals, safety rules, and TM instructions.
• Valid driver’s license (CDL Class A or B preferred) and ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
