High Voltage Technician

About the role

EDGE Group is seeking a skilled High Voltage Technician to operate, maintain, inspect and repair high voltage electrical systems (11kV‑33kV) in a fast‑moving defence and technology environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, maintain and repair transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers and distribution panels.
• Conduct routine and emergency maintenance on HV cables, busbars, isolators and protection relays.
• Perform insulation resistance, hi‑pot and power factor testing, as well as thermographic scanning.
• Monitor power quality parameters and respond to HV faults using LOTO and permit‑to‑work procedures.
• Coordinate grid connection works with UAE utilities and maintain protection relay settings.
• Document all activities in the CMMS and participate in equipment overhauls and shutdowns.

Required profile

• Diploma, Higher Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.
• Minimum 2 years experience with high voltage systems in industrial, utility or defence settings.
• Valid UAE High Voltage Authorization Certificate or equivalent international HV certification.
• Knowledge of IEC standards, UAE DEWA regulations and experience with SCADA/Energy Management systems.

Required skills

• High‑voltage testing instruments (insulation resistance, hi‑pot, power factor).
• Protection relay testing (Siemens, ABB, GE or equivalent).
• Thermographic scanning and predictive maintenance techniques.
• Reading single‑line diagrams, cable schedules and protection coordination studies.
