Internal Auditor

About the role

Kreston Awni Farsakh & Co. is seeking an experienced Internal Auditor to join its team in the UAE. The role covers planning and executing internal audit assignments, evaluating internal controls and risk management, identifying weaknesses and recommending improvements to governance, compliance and operational efficiency. The position suits someone who can work independently while keeping good relationships with clients and management.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute internal audit engagements across financial, operational and compliance functions
• Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, risk management and corporate governance practices
• Conduct risk assessments and develop risk-based audit plans and programmes
• Review financial records, business processes and policies to find control weaknesses and risks
• Evaluate compliance with laws, regulations, policies and contracts
• Identify control deficiencies and potential fraud or misstatement, and recommend corrective actions
• Prepare audit working papers, reports and management letters, and discuss findings with clients and management
• Follow up on agreed corrective actions and review controls over financial reporting, procurement, inventory, payroll, revenue and expenditure
• Help improve audit methodologies, risk assessment frameworks and control documentation
• Complete assignments on time and in line with professional standards and the firm's quality requirements

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field
• At least 5 years of relevant internal audit experience, preferably in a professional services firm or large corporation
• Professional qualification such as CIA, ACCA, CA, CPA or equivalent preferred
• Experience of operational, financial and compliance audits across industries
• Willingness to travel to client premises in the UAE as required

Required skills

• Familiarity with IIA International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Global Internal Audit Standards
• Good understanding of financial reporting, accounting principles and business processes
• Knowledge of UAE regulatory requirements, corporate tax and VAT is an advantage
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and report-writing skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; audit management software and data analytics tools are an advantage
