IP Medical Coder

About the role

Speciality Hospital Abu Dhabi is looking for an IP Medical Coder. The coder checks and sequences the most accurate ICD-9-CM, CPT, HCPCS and DRG codes for diagnoses and procedures, and ensures they match the documented care provided.

Key responsibilities

• Check and sequence accurate ICD-9-CM, CPT, HCPCS and DRG codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Ensure the final diagnoses and operative procedures stated by the physician are valid and complete.
• Prepare daily and monthly coding audit reports.
• Extract information from health records to identify secondary complications and co-morbidities.
• Evaluate records for documentation consistency and adequacy, so the final diagnosis reflects the care rendered.
• Ensure coding follows DOH guidelines and regulations, and give doctors feedback on coding errors or oversights.
• Keep up to date with the latest coding versions and DOH coding directives.
• Maintain inter- and interdepartmental communication and support continuous quality improvement and quality assurance activities.
• Take part in in-service training, in-house activities and conferences, and carry out other duties asked by the Head of Department.
• Adhere to infection control, patient safety, OSHMS, DOH, JCI and ISO policies, and maintain confidentiality.

Required profile

• Graduate in Allied Health Sciences or a related field.
• Certified Coding Associate (CCA) certification from AHIMA.
• At least 2 years of coding experience.

Required skills

• Computer literacy.
• Excellent command of spoken and written English.
