Item Master Controller

About the role

The Item Master Controller will manage the company’s item master data, ensuring accuracy, consistency and integrity across all product and service records. This role creates and maintains a single master record for each item, eliminating duplicate codes and supporting streamlined purchasing and inventory processes.

Key responsibilities

• Create and assign item codes to new and existing products and services based on predefined logic.
• Regularly review and update item codes to reflect changes in specifications, manufacturing processes or inventory systems.
• Maintain the item code database, entering accurate product descriptions, units of measure and mandatory attributes.
• Collaborate with production, procurement, sales, finance and quality teams to ensure consistent item code usage.
• Link item codes to correct products and components, reducing errors in production and inventory management.
• Maintain documentation such as change logs, version control and usage reports.
• Generate reports and analyse item‑code data to support management decisions and process improvements.
• Identify and implement best practices for item code management to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Required profile

• Proficiency in ERP systems, preferably SAP MM (Materials Management).
• Experience in item master data management and maintaining accurate item‑related information.
• Knowledge of data governance principles and best practices.
• Ability to use reporting and analytics tools to derive insights from master data.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across multiple departments.
• Continuous‑improvement mindset with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
