Jewelry Product Designer | Precious Materials Specialist

About the role

A full-time, mid-level to senior Jewelry Product Designer | Precious Materials Specialist is sought to develop distinctive jewelry collections, evaluate precious materials and oversee product design from concept to production readiness. The role combines jewelry design, gemstone selection, precious metal knowledge, technical drawing, material evaluation and manufacturing coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Develop original jewelry concepts, designs and collection themes aligned with brand identity and market trends.
• Create sketches, technical drawings, design specifications and visual presentations for rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pendants and other products.
• Evaluate precious metals (gold, silver, platinum and alloys) and gemstones (color, clarity, cut, durability, appearance).
• Coordinate gemstone selection and material sourcing within approved budgets, and work with gemologists, manufacturers, setters, goldsmiths and suppliers.
• Prepare product specifications (dimensions, metal purity, stone settings, finishes, weights) and develop prototypes and samples.
• Use or review jewelry CAD tools such as Rhino, MatrixGold or 3Design; coordinate with CAD designers for 3D models and production-ready files.
• Review prototypes and samples for workmanship, finishing quality, gemstone alignment and dimensional accuracy, and recommend design improvements.
• Support material costing, supplier assessment and quality assurance inspections, and ensure compliance with hallmarking, disclosure and labeling requirements.
• Protect confidential designs and intellectual property, and support product launches, bespoke projects and seasonal collections.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Jewelry Design, Industrial/Product Design, Gemology, Materials Science or a related field.
• Relevant experience in jewelry design, precious materials evaluation, jewelry manufacturing or product development.
• Portfolio showing jewelry design capability, technical drawing or completed product development projects.
• Strong attention to detail, creativity, communication and project management skills.

Required skills

• Jewelry CAD software such as Rhino, MatrixGold or 3Design (advantageous)
• Knowledge of stone-setting methods, casting, fabrication, polishing and assembly
• Gemstone grading principles and terminology (beneficial)
• Microsoft Office and digital documentation tools
