Lead Instrumentation & Control Engineer (6‑Month Contract)

About the role

KBR is seeking a Lead Instrumentation & Control Engineer to direct all I&C engineering activities for on‑shore gas processing, pipeline and wellhead projects in Abu Dhabi. The role provides technical authority, ensures safe and cost‑effective solutions, and coordinates multidisciplinary teams throughout the FEED lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the preparation, review and approval of all I&C deliverables, including instrument indexes, I/O lists, datasheets, specifications, control philosophies and engineering drawings.
• Develop and implement discipline execution strategies, work plans, resource forecasts and project schedules.
• Mentor and manage a team of engineers and designers, ensuring consistency, quality and compliance.
• Coordinate with Project Management, clients, vendors and other engineering disciplines to achieve successful project delivery.
• Lead functional safety lifecycle activities in line with IEC 61508/61511, including SIL determination, HAZOP follow‑up and safety requirement specifications.
• Identify technical risks, implement mitigation strategies and oversee Management of Change (MOC) processes.

Required profile

• Minimum 16 years of I&C engineering experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, LNG or Energy sectors, with at least 6 years in a lead or senior role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electronics & Communication Engineering or equivalent; professional certifications (ISA, IEC, TUV FSE, EXIDA) are a plus.

Required skills

• Hazardous area classification, ATEX/IECEx compliance, NFPA, BS EN standards.
• Design and specification of PLC, RTU, DCS, ESD, FGS, SCADA and field instrumentation systems.
• Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), SIL studies, functional safety (IEC 61508/61511).
• Experience with API, IEC, ISA, ISO, IEEE, NACE, and ADNOC specific requirements.
• Proficiency in FEED, detailed engineering deliverables, document management systems and project controls.
