Lead Road Design Engineer

About the role

The Lead Road Design Engineer will be based on‑site in Abu Dhabi, overseeing the design and development of road and highway projects. This full‑time position involves managing alignment, geometric layouts and detailed engineering drawings while ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the creation of road and highway designs, including alignment, geometric layout and detailed CAD drawings.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary inputs and integrate drainage, utilities and structural components into the design.
• Review and validate design calculations and technical reports.
• Supervise junior engineers and designers, approving their CAD outputs and providing technical guidance.
• Collaborate with project managers, clients and authorities, contributing to tenders and technical proposals.
• Ensure design deliverables meet quality, safety and cost‑effectiveness criteria.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading road and highway design projects.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a related discipline; professional registration or chartered status is a plus.
• Strong understanding of regional and international road design standards, codes and best practices.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage design schedules and deliver outputs within time and budget constraints.
• Previous experience on major infrastructure projects in the MENA region is highly beneficial.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Computer‑Aided Design (CAD) software for road and infrastructure design.
• Expertise in alignment design, geometric layout design and detailed engineering drawing production.
• Knowledge of drainage, utilities and structural integration within road projects.
• Experience in product or component‑level design related to roadway elements and traffic infrastructure.
• Familiarity with regional and international road design standards and codes.
