Material Inspector – Roads & Infrastructure

About the role

The Material Inspector will ensure that all construction materials used on road, bridge, culvert, drainage and utility projects meet the stringent requirements of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and AECOM specifications. You will work closely with the Material Engineer and Site Engineer to verify deliveries, oversee testing, and maintain accurate QA/QC records on site.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and verify all materials delivered to site against RTA specifications, approved submittals and contract requirements.
• Check material source approvals, delivery notes, batch certificates and test reports before acceptance.
• Coordinate sampling and witness laboratory/field tests for soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, steel and other civil materials as defined in the ITP.
• Monitor storage, handling and protection of materials to prevent contamination, segregation or damage.
• Inspect asphalt paving, concrete works, earthworks and backfilling to confirm correct materials and workmanship.
• Review and submit Work Inspection Requests (WIRs) related to materials and civil works.
• Maintain accurate inspection records, test results and material logs for QA/QC and as‑built documentation.
• Identify non‑conforming materials, raise NCRs, and follow up on corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with HSE requirements during material handling, sampling and testing.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years (60 months) of experience inspecting construction materials on road and infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with RTA specifications, approved material submittals and contract documentation.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and test plans.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain comprehensive QA/QC records.
