Mechanical Design Engineer (m/f/d)

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Mechanical Design Engineer who can turn ideas, sketches and specifications into manufacturable products. You will collaborate with research and engineering leaders to bring concepts through detailed design, rapid prototyping and production.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret whiteboard discussions, sketches and written specs into robust mechanical designs.
• Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings and supporting documentation using SolidWorks.
• Develop manufacturable solutions that balance performance, cost and production efficiency.
• Work directly with machine shops, manufacturing partners and production facilities to ensure successful fabrication.
• Support prototype development with 3D printing and other rapid‑manufacturing techniques.
• Assemble, test and refine prototypes and mechanical systems.
• Participate in design reviews, providing input on manufacturability, materials and production methods.

Required profile

• Strong practical experience in mechanical design or drafting.
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks; ability to learn other CAD tools quickly.
• Good understanding of machining, moulding and additive manufacturing processes.
• Experience designing metal and plastic components, including sheet‑metal parts.
• Hands‑on workshop skills with engineering hand tools and machine tools.
• Basic FEA knowledge or ability to perform hand calculations for design validation.
