Neonatologist Specialist

About the role

NMC Healthcare is hiring a Specialist in Neonatology in Abu Dhabi. The role delivers professional, ethical and high-quality clinical care while managing clinical risks, complying with governance standards and keeping accurate medical records. It covers the full scope of neonatology, from daily rounds in the NICU and nursery to inpatient care of newborns and emergency on-call coverage.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and reassess patients, conduct daily rounds in the NICU and nursery, and perform examinations and procedures across the field of neonatology
• Order laboratory and radiological tests, make diagnoses, prescribe medication and advise on nursing and dietary care
• Provide inpatient care to newborns and attend difficult deliveries or caesarean sections
• Offer consultation and referral services to inpatient services and act as an expert consultant to other medical services
• Provide on-call emergency coverage for neonatal emergencies according to the duty roster
• Attend committee meetings, quality assurance reviews and journal reading to keep up with new techniques, drugs and therapies
• Take part in international guideline development, in-service training, CMEs, teaching activities and physicians' conferences
• Follow policies of the Department of Health, JCI, ISO, OSHMS and other regulators, and take part in quality assurance for obstetrics and gynaecology services
• Handle complaints amicably, foster interdepartmental liaison, follow fire and emergency procedures, and assist senior staff in developing best-practice guidelines and protocols

Required profile

• At least 3 to 5 years of post-qualification experience at specialist level (independent of country)
• At least 1 year of specialist-level experience from a Tier 1 country as defined by the UAE healthcare regulator
• Basic medical degree and a recognized specialty qualification (fellowship or diploma) under the UAE authority
• Certification and registration in a specialty recognized by the UAE authority, with eligibility for registration
• Active, valid life support certification (e.g. BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, NRP)
