Nursing Director / Hospital Operations Director

About the role

The Nursing Director / Hospital Operations Director leads nursing services or oversees hospital-wide operations to ensure high standards of patient care, operational efficiency, service quality and organizational performance. The role covers strategic planning, resource management, staff leadership, quality improvement and coordination across clinical and non-clinical departments, ensuring service delivery, patient safety, regulatory compliance and alignment with organizational objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead nursing services or hospital operations to ensure efficient workflows, high-quality care and effective use of resources.
• Develop and implement operational strategies, policies, procedures and performance improvement initiatives.
• Manage staffing, workforce planning, departmental budgets, equipment and other operational resources.
• Monitor service performance, patient satisfaction, clinical quality indicators and operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare standards, safety requirements, accreditation criteria and organizational policies.
• Coordinate with physicians, nursing teams, department heads and administrative personnel to improve service delivery.
• Establish and monitor performance indicators, operational reports and quality improvement programs.
• Oversee recruitment, training, performance evaluation, leadership development and succession planning.
• Promote patient safety, infection prevention, risk management and continuous quality improvement.
• Handle operational challenges, patient complaints, incidents and service disruptions through corrective actions.
• Support audits, accreditation activities, internal reviews and quality assurance initiatives.
• Collaborate with senior management on budgets, business plans, operational policies and service expansion strategies; for Nursing Directors, oversee nursing standards and clinical staffing, and for Hospital Operations Directors, oversee administrative and operational functions, interdepartmental coordination and cost management.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management, Hospital Administration or a related field.
• Relevant leadership experience in nursing management, hospital operations, healthcare administration or clinical service management.
• Professional nursing qualifications and applicable professional registration for Nursing Director positions where relevant.
• Postgraduate qualifications in healthcare management, nursing leadership or business administration are an advantage.
• For director-level roles, proven experience in strategic leadership, organizational development, financial management and large-scale healthcare operations is preferred.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, patient safety, quality management and clinical or administrative workflows.
• Understanding of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, risk management and service quality principles.
• Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams, budgets, staffing and operational resources.
• Proficiency in healthcare information systems, Microsoft Office and relevant reporting tools.
