Power System Design Engineer

About the role

A leading independent telecommunications infrastructure company operating across Africa and the Middle East is hiring a Power System Design Engineer, reporting to the Digital Innovation function. The engineer designs low-voltage AC and -48V DC power systems for telecom and remote sites, produces buildable design packs that meet international standards, and supports delivery teams through construction and commissioning. The role is open to candidates based in Dubai or South Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Produce complete power system design packs, including single line diagrams, cable schedules, earthing layouts, panel drawings and bills of materials
• Design LV AC and -48V DC systems for grid, diesel generator, hybrid (DG + PV) and battery energy storage solutions
• Perform core electrical calculations such as cable sizing, voltage drop, load assessments and protection checks
• Ensure designs comply with IEC and BS standards and embed safety-by-design principles
• Support project and site teams with technical queries and assist during construction and commissioning
• Maintain accurate design documentation, version control and structured data in document management systems
• Contribute to improving design templates, tools and digital engineering processes

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent relevant experience)
• 3-8 years' experience in LV/ELV power system design, preferably in telecoms or remote site environments
• Proven track record of delivering complete, reviewed and approved electrical design packages
• Strong analytical, organisational and documentation skills with high attention to detail

Required skills

• Working knowledge of -48V DC power systems, diesel generators, earthing, lightning protection and surge protection
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (Electrical) and/or EPLAN with disciplined drawing and revision control
• Solid understanding of IEC and BS electrical standards for LV systems
• Desired: PV and battery storage design tools, digital engineering or automation scripts, document management systems, and experience collaborating with cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams
