Principal Engineer - Aerodynamics & Missiles

About the role

ADVANCED CONCEPTS, an entity within EDGE, develops high-technology autonomous systems including unmanned aerial systems, precision loitering munitions, cruise missiles and guided artillery munitions. This Principal Engineer role covers the design, analysis and optimisation of missiles, spanning aerodynamics, structures, flight dynamics, controls, propulsion and stability, and leads conceptual design and performance studies such as high-speed aerodynamics, heat transfer and store separation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, performance evaluation and optimisation of missiles, including fuselage, wings and control surfaces
• Incorporate structural and aerodynamic considerations into the design process
• Apply applied aerodynamics, flight dynamics and control theory to guide design projects and ensure stability
• Contribute to conceptual design: requirements formulation, concept generation, trade-off studies, sensitivity analysis and MDO
• Work on jet propulsion (solid rocket motors and turbines) and store separation (simulation and validation)
• Perform design computations and interpret simulation results
• Communicate complex technical information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
• Support the chief engineer and mentor Engineers, Engineer I and Engineer II

Required profile

• Master's or PhD in Aerospace Engineering
• Minimum 12 years in the UAS industry, including 5+ years in a senior or team lead role
• Knowledge of guided weapons and missile technology is mandatory
• English proficiency required

Required skills

• Preferred: MS Office, MATLAB, CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
• Preferred: DATCOM and ANSYS Fluent for fixed-wing aircraft and missiles
• Preferred: HPC cluster experience for CFD and CHT simulations
• Preferred: expert knowledge of missile conceptual design and working knowledge of missile control theory
