Principal Engineer - System Engineer

About the role

EDGE is seeking a Principal Engineer – System Engineer to lead the definition, architecture, and integration of high‑performance real‑time embedded software systems for advanced defence and aerospace platforms. The role acts as the technical authority bridging system requirements, software architecture, hardware interfaces, and development teams.

Key responsibilities

• Translate high‑level system requirements into detailed software requirements and maintain end‑to‑end traceability.
• Define software architectures, interface control documents, and integration strategies for real‑time embedded systems.
• Serve as liaison between software, systems, and hardware engineers and project stakeholders.
• Lead software system engineering activities, conduct technical reviews, mentor junior engineers and develop capability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronic, Computer, or Software Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of embedded software engineering experience, preferably in defence, aerospace or aviation.
• At least 3 years in a software architect, system engineer or technical lead role.
• Strong knowledge of requirements management and traceability tools such as Jama.

Required skills

• Embedded real‑time software development.
• Safety‑critical certification (DO‑178C Level A or equivalent).
• Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SCADE.
• FPGA interfacing and safety‑critical middleware.
• Embedded communication protocols.
