Professor of Art History (Tenure-Track/Open Rank) – Modern and Contemporary Arab Art

About the role

NYU Abu Dhabi's Division of Arts and Humanities is seeking a tenured or tenure-track Professor of Art History (open rank) for the 2027-28 academic year, specialising in Modern and Contemporary Arab Art History. The successful candidate will help build collaborations with other programs in the Arts and Humanities Division and with other divisions at the university, and will contribute to interdisciplinary programs in Middle East Studies, Global Studies, Curatorial Studies and Public Humanities.

Key responsibilities

• Undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising in the Program, and teaching in the Core Curriculum
• Supervision of BA, MA and PhD students
• Maintaining an active research and publication program
• Participating in departmental and university service
• Fostering collaborations with museums, archives and cultural institutions

Required profile

• Distinguished scholar with an established international publication record
• PhD in Art History, Humanities, Middle East Studies or a closely related field
• Demonstrated record of scholarly publications and evidence of successful university-level teaching
• Expertise in modern and contemporary art of the Arab world
• Preferred: museum, curatorial or exhibition experience; experience securing external grants; knowledge of Arabic language and culture
