R&D Technician - Avionics

About the role

AirQ is looking for an R&D Technician - Avionics in Abu Dhabi. The technician builds, integrates, tests and maintains the electrical and electronic systems of R&D prototypes such as UAVs, launch systems, ground control stations and other ground equipment, working hands-on with avionics engineers from first prototype to flight test. The role also bridges R&D and production by helping transfer designs to manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Build wiring harnesses and cable assemblies from drawings and pin-out tables, and install avionics in airframes and ground systems
• Assemble and wire ground equipment such as ground control stations, antenna and tracker set-ups, launchers and test rigs
• Perform continuity, insulation and power-up tests, load firmware, calibrate sensors and set up bench tests and HIL test rigs
• Find and repair electrical faults and support ground and flight tests
• Maintain prototype records, manage LiPo and Li-ion batteries and keep the workshop clean, safe and organized under 5S
• Build pilot production units, write photo-based work instructions, train assembly staff and prepare ATPs

Required profile

• Diploma, associate degree or technical certificate in electronics, electrical engineering, avionics, mechatronics or aircraft maintenance
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in electronics or avionics assembly, integration or maintenance
• UAV, aerospace, defence, automotive or robotics experience preferred; avionics maintenance licence or military experience is an advantage
• Good spoken and written English; UAE driving licence is an advantage

Required skills

• Reading wiring diagrams, schematics and harness drawings
• Crimping and soldering, including JST, Molex, D-sub and circular connectors
• Use of multimeters, oscilloscopes, bench power supplies and insulation testers
• Basic knowledge of DC power systems, data buses (UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet) and Linux command line
• PX4 or ArduPilot with QGroundControl or Mission Planner is desirable
