Research Accountant – Finance Department

About the role

The Accountant, Research Accounting, supports the Research Accounting Manager in overseeing the financial administration of research and executive‑education projects at the university. The incumbent collaborates with internal finance units, research centres, colleges and external sponsors to ensure accurate and timely handling of research‑related finances.

Key responsibilities

• Process grant setup, extensions and system updates in the Oracle PPM module.
• Prepare and process invoices to external sponsors accurately and on time.
• Liaise with sponsors and external stakeholders on financial reporting requirements.
• Prepare and allocate indirect cost (IDC/overhead) earned on projects.
• Prepare monthly payroll add‑on schedules and journal vouchers for cost allocations and adjustments.
• Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Coordinate with colleges, research offices and other departments to exchange financial information.
• Collaborate with General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Receivable and Payroll units.
• Assist in finance transformation initiatives and continuous process‑improvement projects.
• Undertake other duties as assigned to support the Finance Office and university objectives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Professional accounting qualification preferred (ACCA, CIMA, CPA, ACA, CMA).
• Experience in research accounting or higher‑education finance is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and attention‑to‑detail abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP systems – preferably Oracle Fusion or Ellucian Banner.
• Experience using Oracle PPM module.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and overall Microsoft Office proficiency.
