Research Scientist – Extragalactic Astronomy (Physics)

About the role

The Division of Science (Physics) at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks a Research Scientist to lead investigations into how Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) influence their host galaxies. The position focuses on extragalactic astronomy, leveraging large survey data and advanced analytical methods.

Key responsibilities

• Apply advanced statistical and machine‑learning techniques to large samples of galaxies to study AGN and galaxy properties.
• Analyze and interpret astrophysical data from major surveys and observing facilities.
• Collaborate with researchers in the Physics program, the Center for Astrophysics and Space Science, and the Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics.
• Participate in group research activities, including high‑performance computing projects and observational campaigns.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics or a closely related field.
• Minimum of six years of post‑doctoral research experience.
• Extensive experience with large‑scale astrophysical data analysis.
• Strong computational background and interest in statistical/ML approaches.
