Scholarly Communications Librarian (Assistant/Associate Professor)

About the role

The Library and Learning Commons Department at Zayed University is seeking an experienced Scholarly Communications Librarian at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The role focuses on building university‑wide support for researchers and students, enhancing the visibility and impact of academic work through open‑access initiatives, digital scholarship, and research metrics.

Key responsibilities

• Lead consultancy on copyright, fair use, and intellectual property for digital and classroom environments.
• Champion open‑access publishing by designing and managing related programs.
• Collaborate on the administration and discoverability of the institutional repository.
• Coordinate collection, submission, preservation, and promotion of scholarly outputs.
• Guide researchers in using traditional and alternative metrics to demonstrate impact.
• Provide expert advice on predatory publishing, academic integrity, and AI‑related research challenges.
• Maintain up‑to‑date guidance materials, authorship rights information, and journal selection resources.
• Develop strong relationships with faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students to advocate library scholarly resources.

Required profile

• Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills to supervise staff and collaborate across university units.
• Proven ability to initiate, prioritize, and manage projects or services in a research library setting.
• Excellent communication skills with faculty, students, administrators, and external stakeholders.
• Broad vision of best practices in scholarly communication and emerging library services.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of copyright law, fair use, and intellectual property.
• Experience with open‑access publishing models and institutional repositories.
• Familiarity with research metrics, both traditional and alternative.
• Ability to assess and advise on predatory publishing and AI impacts on research.
