Senior Aerodynamics Engineer – Missiles

About the role

ADVANCED CONCEPTS, a division of EDGE, focuses on designing and deploying cutting‑edge autonomous systems, including unmanned aerial vehicles, loitering munitions, cruise missiles and guided artillery. The Senior Aerodynamics Engineer will lead the aerodynamic design and optimisation of missile airframes, ensuring high‑performance flight characteristics across trans‑sonic and supersonic regimes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and optimisation of missile fuselage, wings and control surfaces, integrating aerodynamic considerations throughout the development process.
• Apply deep knowledge of high‑speed aerodynamics, flight dynamics and jet propulsion to guide concept generation, trade‑off studies and multi‑disciplinary optimisation (MDO).
• Utilise control theory to ensure missile stability and performance, conducting sensitivity analyses and simulation result interpretation.
• Support the chief engineer with technical contributions and mentor junior engineers (Engineer I, Engineer II).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in the UAS industry, including at least 3 years in a senior or team‑lead role.
• Experience with guided weapons and missile conceptual design is preferred.
• Strong mathematical skills and ability to communicate complex technical information clearly.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with MATLAB.
• SolidWorks (or other CAD package) for aerodynamic modelling.
• Low‑fidelity tools such as DATCOM.
• High‑fidelity CFD tools, specifically ANSYS Fluent.
• Working knowledge of jet propulsion systems (turbine and solid‑rocket motors).
• Familiarity with missile control theory and multi‑disciplinary optimisation techniques.
