Senior Backend Engineer - AI Agent Infrastructure

About the role

A Senior Backend Engineer is needed to build the production-grade application infrastructure behind an AI-driven transformation, acting as technical lead for Workstream 2: Build. The role designs secure, high-performance backend systems that connect Large Language Models (LLMs) with enterprise systems such as industrial ERPs and engineering data, within a structured Stage Gate delivery framework. The position is based in Abu Dhabi.

Key responsibilities

• Architect the orchestration layer for AI agents (Agent of Agents framework), coordinating specialized AI workers and managing state, task routing and error handling.
• Develop the Task Router and Intent Classifier services that map user prompts to skills or playbooks.
• Build containerized microservices optimized for high concurrency on the LeverEDGE platform.
• Construct a secure Data Access Layer for SAP S/4HANA and Ariba, and a secure, observable connection layer for the central data lakehouse.
• Implement backend logic for Vector Databases (e.g. Weaviate) and RAG models, and external API connectors for data feeds with rate limiting, caching and normalization.
• Deploy defense-grade security services including Gateway and Policy Guard, enforcing authentication, RBAC and redaction of PII and ITAR data.
• Optimize systems for air-gapped or on-premise deployment on local GPU clusters, and implement logging, tracing, monitoring and observability.

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, focusing on distributed systems or platforms serving ML/AI models in production.
• Ability to work in a structured governance environment, delivering Agile software that passes Stage Gate reviews and Systems Engineering audits.
• Experience with high availability, auditability and defense-grade security, preferably in Fintech, Healthcare or Defense.
• Proven collaboration with Data Scientists and Frontend Engineers.
