Senior Backend & Platform Engineer

About the role

Udrive builds scalable platforms for vehicle sharing, subscription services, fleet management, IoT connectivity, payments and customer experiences. It is looking for a Senior Backend & Platform Engineer in Dubai who takes full ownership of the systems they build. This is primarily a hands-on backend engineering role, with additional responsibility for deploying, maintaining and optimizing applications in production.

Key responsibilities

• Design and maintain high-performance backend applications in Python and FastAPI, including RESTful APIs, microservices, event-driven apps and async code with asyncio
• Integrate with third-party APIs, payment gateways, IoT systems and external services, and implement authentication, authorization and secure API communication
• Design PostgreSQL schemas, write optimized SQL, use Redis caching, handle migrations and transactions, and tune slow queries
• Build distributed services, event-driven architectures (NATS, RabbitMQ, Kafka), and systems for high concurrency and large transaction volumes
• Deploy and maintain applications on AWS, containerize with Docker, run CI/CD pipelines, configure EC2, ECS, App Runner, RDS, S3, and use Nginx or Traefik for routing
• Implement structured logging, metrics, tracing and alerting, monitor health and availability, and troubleshoot production issues
• Take end-to-end ownership of backend services, collaborate with mobile, product and engineering teams, mentor engineers and reduce technical debt

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with substantial hands-on backend development
• Production experience with FastAPI or comparable Python frameworks
• Strong PostgreSQL experience, including schema design, indexing and query optimization
• Experience deploying and operating applications on AWS, with Docker and CI/CD pipelines
• Ability to independently design, debug and deliver production-ready backend services
