Senior Charge Nurse – Maternity

About the role

The Senior Charge Nurse (CRN) leads the nursing team in the Maternity unit, ensuring optimal patient flow, staff skill mix, and coordination of hospital services during each shift.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership for the nursing team, report issues to senior charge nurse/unit manager, and collaborate with non‑nursing departments to resolve patient‑care concerns.
• Facilitate effective patient flow by managing bed allocation, staffing resources, and skill mix according to patient acuity.
• Maintain high‑quality nursing documentation, conduct hospital rounds, and guide clinical and operational management.
• Communicate with internal and external healthcare providers, ensure confidentiality, and support efficient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
• Support performance improvement, accreditation activities, incident reporting, infection control, and compliance with patient safety goals.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of clinical experience in a relevant healthcare setting post‑qualification.
• At least 2 years as a Senior Charge Nurse or 3 years in a Charge Nurse position.
• Demonstrated leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration, and commitment to continuous professional development.

Required skills
