Senior Data Scientist – Personalization

About the role

Senior Data Scientist II – Personalization at Careem, based in Dubai, will lead the development of hyper‑personalization systems across Food, Quik and Shops, leveraging graph‑based retrieval, transformer models and real‑time learning.

Key responsibilities

• Own hyper‑personalization use cases across verticals, designing systems that learn user intent in real time and transfer signals across products.
• Lead exploration of graph‑based retrieval methods, building knowledge‑graph pipelines for candidate generation and ranking at scale.
• Design and evaluate transformer‑based architectures for sequential and contextual recommendation.
• Push toward online/streaming learning systems that adapt within a user session.
• Identify shared personalization signals and infrastructure across Food, Quik and Shops to reduce duplicate work.
• Shape long‑term vision for customer acquisition and engagement using data‑driven decision‑making.

Required profile

• 7‑10 years of experience in data mining, predictive modeling, machine learning and big‑data methodologies.
• Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science).
• 2‑4 years of industry experience in personalization, recommendation or search, preferably at scale.
• Strong problem‑solving and coding skills with solid knowledge of A/B testing, classical ML and deep learning.
