Senior Materials Engineer

About the role

The Senior Materials Engineer will lead material selection, qualification and oversight for turbofan propulsion systems, ensuring compliance with performance, durability and certification requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Organise materials database knowledge and strategy.
• Support product engineering with material behavior laws and characteristics for component design and validation.
• Assist industrialisation, manufacturing and supply‑chain teams from raw material to production delivery.
• Define and approve material selections for compressors, turbines, combustion chambers, casings, shafts, bearings, intake and exhaust.
• Manage risk, identify material criticality and run what‑if scenarios for performance and manufacturing processes.
• Define material qualification and testing programmes (creep, LCF/HCF, corrosion, etc.).
• Conduct root‑cause analysis, metallurgical investigations and non‑conformance assessments.
• Support supplier qualification and audits, and prepare compliance documentation.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years experience in turbofan propulsion, aerospace or complex engineered systems.
• Deep expertise in nickel superalloys, titanium alloys, CMC, single‑crystal alloys, stainless steels, ceramic coatings, TBC and composites.
• Strong knowledge of material testing, behavior laws and characterization.
• Solid understanding of turbofan architectures, performance drivers and technology interfaces.
• Experience with manufacturing processes, FAI, validation and qualification, and standards such as ASTM, ISO and AMS.
