Senior Mechanical Stress Engineer

About the role

EDGE’s POWERTECH centre of excellence is looking for a Senior Mechanical Stress Engineer to lead stress and vibration analysis of gas‑turbine components for turbojet and turbofan programmes. The role combines mechanical design, integrity assessment and project planning while mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and optimise gas‑turbine systems for life, weight, manufacturability and cost.
• Perform thermo‑mechanical simulations at design, off‑design and far‑off‑design conditions.
• Carry out creep, fatigue and fracture assessments.
• Conduct vibration and rotodynamic analysis.
• Execute FMECA to support safety and operability.
• Review designs, simulations and generate testing guidelines.
• Identify project risks and plan mitigation actions.

Required profile

• Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering degree or related field.
• 5‑15 years of experience in gas‑turbine propulsion or similar high‑performance engine work.
• Fluent English communication skills.

Required skills

• Strong background in gas‑turbine propulsion, mechanical design, integrity and heat transfer.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Siemens NX.
• Experience with FEA or lower‑order simulation methods.
• Programming skills in C, Matlab/Simulink or similar.
• Knowledge of creep, fatigue, fracture, vibration and rotodynamic analysis.
• FMECA (Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis) expertise.
