Senior Principal Process Engineer

About the role

The Senior Principal Process Engineer solves complex, high-impact problems and acts as a specialist in the Process discipline with a broad knowledge of the Engineering function. The role influences the direction and resource allocation of programs and projects within general functional policies and industry guidelines, and calls for conceptual and innovative thinking. It also includes a Lead Engineer capacity, directing large engineering teams and managing discipline-level design.

Key responsibilities

• Perform conceptual, FEED and detailed analyses and design according to design basis, project specifications, codes and standards, and develop reliable, cost-effective solutions
• Manage own time and, as Lead Engineer, forecast and plan resource requirements and discipline deliverables within schedule and budget
• Lead discipline engineering design, plan and direct all aspects of discipline execution, and act as project representative in meetings with the customer, certifying authorities and auditors
• Identify scope changes and raise change notifications and variation orders with supporting documentation and estimates
• Interface with other disciplines to develop clash-free designs, and document substantive communications
• Prepare bid estimates, technical queries, and the discipline engineering budget and execution plan
• Approve design basis, design reports, procedures, vendor and subcontractor submittals, and review customer comments on drawings
• Check key deliverables such as process simulations, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, process specifications, operating manuals, line lists, sizing calculations and flare studies
• Support other disciplines with inputs such as layout reviews, safety studies, electrical and instrument load lists, ESD and F&G logic diagrams, and participate in HAZAN, HAZID, HAZOP and other safety studies
• Lead discipline audits and design reviews, mentor engineers, supervise assigned engineers, monitor costs and KPIs, and prepare quarterly forecasts and workforce planning
