Senior Structural Engineer - Design Review

About the role

Bureau Veritas is hiring a Senior Structural Engineer in Dubai for its BNI department, reporting to the BNI Manager / DR Team Leader. The engineer performs design review, technical audits, specialised and expert studies and other conformity assessment services, with design appraisal as the most common mission. The role involves working with internal and external customers and liaising with clients and authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out structural design reviews of buildings, including dynamic seismic design and wind loads on cladding, facades and building skins, against defined standards and codes
• Evaluate designs with Team Leader support using 2D/3D software, covering foundations, soil excavations, concrete and precast prestressed structures, steel structures, connections and facade systems
• Prepare technical reports and attend meetings with clients and authorities
• Conduct site inspections of civil works, check material submittals and method statements, and issue quality assurance and quality control reports
• Perform hand calculations, load combinations, stress checks and code checks, and recalculations of overstressed parts
• Participate in tender preparation, project execution and reporting, and contribute to knowledge management and best practices

Required profile

• University degree in engineering; licensed by Dubai Municipality for structural design review of unlimited height
• Minimum 15 years of structural engineering experience
• Experience in concrete and steel structure design, and ability to interpret finite element modelling results
• Good technical reporting in English and ability to handle discussions with clients and authorities

Required skills

• Structural design software and codes (IBC, ACI, UBC, ASTM, AISC)
• AutoCAD and MS Office
• Basic knowledge of solid and materials mechanics
